We believe that architecture is more than just the aesthetics of a finished building. Good architecture is functional, sustainable, comfortable, and ultimately provides a space that enhances day to day wellbeing. But how do you get to this point?
As architects, we follow a common process to design and deliver a building project; and it requires both a creative and technical skillset.
Any proposed design solution must be considered within the constraints of the site, building and planning regulations, budget and sustainability concerns. This requires a balancing act between creativity, practicality and organization. Key to the success of this process is a good team. An architect will sit at the core of this team, working collaboratively to propose creative design solutions, while also handling all consultants and being your go-between to simplify the process and reduce your stress levels.
An architect must be able to communicate and collaborate well in order to successfully expand on the vision you have for your future home or renovation.
No, not always! The location, planning zone and overlay controls on your site will affect whether a planning permit is needed; but on some sites provided that conditions are met, a planning permit may not be required for your building project.
Why is this even a concern? Planning permits can potentially impact the time, cost and potential design of your project; so, it is something to be aware of upfront.
It’s worth noting that a planning permit doesn’t remove the need to obtain a building permit, which is a separate permit that ensures your project is constructed to relevant building legislation and codes.
Cusp Architecture is based on the Mornington Peninsula and we love the ocean. Beach cusps are formations made up of sand that make an impressive arc pattern on the ocean shoreline. However, the term cusp also means something else for us.
The name Cusp Architecture stems from the fact that our solutions help people who are at a point of transition – on the cusp of a change to the way they live and/or work at home. Embarking on a building project can be a major milestone in life, and we don’t underestimate the huge impact a building project can make on a client’s life.
While exciting, the building process can also be really daunting; but when complete, a new home or space can help make a positive change in day to day living. We hope to make the transition to get there as smooth as possible.
An interior designer can be engaged on your project from pre-design and concept design stages right through to construction documentation and handover of your finished building. An interior designer is an expert in spatial, structural and material considerations in your space; and will produce sketches, images and mood boards for a client to review as the design progresses. For tender and construction documentation, they will produce a full set of interior drawings and schedules detailing cabinetry, finishes, fixtures and equipment for any internal (and also external) spaces. Interior designers can help find solutions that have a huge impact on the layout, but also the psychology of a space, and how different interior finishes and solutions can affect us.
